01

Remanufacturing & quality

How does remanufacturing actually work?
A system comes in, and we take it down to its core structure. Frames are inspected and reinforced, hardware is replaced, surfaces are powder coated to specification, and panels and seating are reupholstered in current textile lines — all in-house, under one roof. What goes back out is a Steelcase system rebuilt to a defined engineering standard, not a cleaned-up piece of used furniture. That distinction is the whole point of NC3R certification, which we are one of the few remanufacturers in the United States to hold.
What does “indistinguishable from new” really mean?
It means exactly what it says: side by side, on the floor, you cannot tell a remanufactured Roberts workstation from one purchased new — in finish, fit, function, or feel. It is not “refurbished,” which typically means cleaned and resold as-is. Every wear surface is restored or replaced to a specification we control, and the result carries a full warranty. We invite you to make that comparison in person at our Liverpool showroom.
Which Steelcase systems do you remanufacture?
Avenir, Series 9000, and the full range of Steelcase systems. Because we rebuild these to spec rather than reselling whatever inventory exists, we can match an existing footprint, extend a system you already run, or reconfigure it entirely — the components are engineered to work together across generations, which is exactly what makes painless expansion possible.
Why remanufactured instead of new?
Most office furniture is built to be installed once and never touched again. We build the opposite: systems engineered to grow and reconfigure with the business, so expansion never means starting over — no growing pains. You get furniture indistinguishable from new, typically at around 30% or more in savings versus buying new, with measurable sustainability gains on top. It is the better-engineered choice before it is the thriftier one.
02

Warranty, lead time & what we offer

Is remanufactured furniture really under warranty?
Yes — in full, and on the same terms you would expect from new. Because we control every step of the rebuild in-house, we stand behind the result without caveats about “used condition.” If something ever needs attention, you reach the people who built it. Warranty and support questions go to customersupport@robertsofc.com and are handled directly by our team in Liverpool.
What are typical lead times?
Lead time depends on scope, finish selections, and whether the project includes custom millwork — a single floor of standard remanufactured systems moves faster than a multi-building rollout with bespoke casework. Because every discipline is under one roof, nothing sits in a subcontractor’s queue, which is where most furniture timelines slip. Share your plan and target install date with inquire@robertsofc.com and we’ll give you a realistic schedule with your quote.
Do you sell brand-new furniture too?
We do. Many projects mix remanufactured systems with new pieces, custom millwork, and reconfigured inventory — whatever serves the floor and the budget best. The advantage of routing all of it through Roberts is a single specification, a single install, and a single point of accountability, rather than coordinating separate vendors who each blame the other when something arrives off-spec.
Where do you deliver and install?
We operate one facility — our headquarters, shop, and showroom at 7327 Henry Clay Blvd in Liverpool, New York — and deliver and install nationwide from it. Keeping fabrication and finishing in one place is precisely what lets us guarantee the specification, then send our own installation team to set it on your floor rather than handing off to a local crew that never saw the build.
03

Pricing, design & sustainability

How does pricing and quoting work?
We don’t publish prices, because no two installs are the same — configuration, finishes, fabrics, custom work, and install all move the number. Every project is quote-based. Send a floor plan, a parts list, or even a single workstation to inquire@robertsofc.com, and we’ll spec it and come back with a clear, itemized quote. Most clients see roughly 30% or more in savings versus buying the same systems new.
Do you decommission and buy back used furniture?
Yes. We handle full decommissions — clearing a floor or an entire building — and we take quality Steelcase systems off your hands, often fresh off the truck, to feed back into remanufacturing. That keeps usable furniture out of the landfill and can offset the cost of your new specification. If you’re downsizing, relocating, or closing a site, talk to us before you call a hauler.
Can you help with space planning and design?
We work alongside architects, designers, and dealers regularly, and we run design consultations directly for clients planning a space. We’ll spec configurations, finishes, and fabrics against your drawings and your goals, and the Liverpool showroom is a useful tool when you’re presenting options to stakeholders. Architects, designers, and dealers can reach our team at design@robertsofc.com.
Can you provide sustainability and LEED documentation?
We can. Remanufacturing with Roberts contributes to LEED Materials & Resources and Indoor Environmental Quality credits, and we’ll provide the documentation your project needs. The numbers are substantial: in a single year our work avoided 815,000 lbs of CO₂ and conserved 1.02 million lbs of raw materials, with roughly the energy to power 19 homes for a day saved per workstation remanufactured. Tell us what your green-building team requires and we’ll prepare it.

Still have a question?

If we haven’t answered it here, ask us directly — a specialist, not a phone tree. We’ll route you to the right person on the floor and have specifics ready before we talk.
